I spent over a decade working in corporate.
Large multinational companies. Digital transformation. Complex systems. Big change programmes.
I have seen technology evolve and reshape the way we work, but the AI age is different.
The pace is faster, the investment is bigger, and breakthroughs are landing faster than many organisations can keep up with. While “try this tool” or “just be curious” may sound simple, for many employees AI feels daunting and overwhelming.
Organisational constraints exist for good reason. The need for responsible practices, clear governance, data protection and risk controls. But those controls also need to stay current…
If organisations want to remain competitive, attract and retain top talent, leadership needs to keep AI governance, processes, and capability high on the agenda.
So, if you work in an organisation where access to AI tools feels limited, or you feel overwhelmed by the wider AI narrative, here are three practical things you can do:
1. Understand your organisation’s digital transformation strategy
What is changing?
What are the timelines?
What does it mean for your role, your team, and your skills?
What/ who could support you — courses, a mentor, coach, manager, or someone already working close to the change?
2. Read your GenAI policy
Find out which tools are approved for work and what type of data can to enter. There may be restrictions and knowing the rules will help you use AI responsibly.
3. Experiment with the tools you do have
Start small. Prompt responsibly with approved tools, this maybe Copilot, Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, or whatever your organisation provides.
A failed prompt is low risk, but the learning you gain from trying, refining, and trying again is valuable.
AI adoption in organisations isn’t just about tools. It is about confidence, governance, culture, mindset, and capability.
